The second Georgia-Hungary intergovernmental summit, held in Budapest, addressed all key areas of bilateral cooperation. It supports Georgia’s path toward European Union integration, stated GD First Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Levan Davitashvili.
Davitashvili noted that trade between Georgia and Hungary has progressed significantly, with trade turnover increasing by 14% in 2024.
“The summit was comprehensive, covering virtually all areas of cooperation—including sports, culture, education, and economics—which was also reflected in the statements made by both Prime Ministers. Hungary, as an EU member state, remains one of Georgia’s strongest supporters on the path to EU membership,” said Davitashvili.
He highlighted transport cooperation, particularly in civil aviation. Hungarian airline WizzAir continues to expand in Georgia and currently leads the country’s air travel market, connecting Georgia with around 28 destinations.
“Both Prime Ministers emphasized that we have not yet fully tapped the potential of our cooperation. That’s why we’ve agreed that the private sector must more actively engage through the platforms established by both countries to deepen economic ties,” Davitashvili stated.
He also mentioned the importance of the bilateral agreement on investment promotion and protection, along with several memorandums of cooperation signed across specific sectors.
“Now the key priority is implementation. Both governments will work closely with the private sector to fully realize the opportunities in trade, investment, energy, transport, and broader economic relations,” Davitashvili concluded.
