Newly appointed Culture Minister Maia Bitadze said she fully understands the responsibility entrusted to her by the ruling team and representatives of the cultural sector. She described the appointment as a major responsibility and expression of trust, emphasizing the importance of culture to Georgia’s national identity and heritage.
Bitadze thanked the Georgian Dream team and her colleagues for their confidence, saying she understands the significant work ahead. She expressed hope that her ministry will be successful and that she will live up to the trust placed in her.
She said she brings many years of public-sector experience to the position and is ready to listen to cultural professionals and everyone who contributes to Georgian culture. Bitadze previously chaired Parliament’s Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee, served as Environment Minister from 2011-2017, and was Tbilisi Deputy Mayor from 2017-2020.
The Culture Minister position became vacant after Tinatin Rukhadze resigned on July 28, citing health reasons. Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze announced on September 14 that he would soon name a new Culture Minister and said no other cabinet personnel changes were expected.
