I would like to reach out to the Minister of Home Affairs who I am unable to contact, unfortunately, my administration is unable to contact his deputy, the official government line is not working and I want to ask him and urge him to make the police response faster and more effective, - said the President of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili, in a public address.
According to her, the type of tension that is observed at the polling stations does not belong to Georgia.
At the same time, the President thanked the people of Georgia for their activity and urged them to be more active in the afternoon.
"I want to appeal to all our citizens and tell them how important today's elections are, to note that the turnout is very high, and this is a very good sign. It probably needs to continue into the afternoon and we expect even higher activity. There is an extraordinary activity abroad, although the conditions there are quite difficult and difficult, but despite this, our compatriots go there actively, and we thank them very much.
However, I would also like to point out the very bad facts of violence that are happening in different areas - sometimes media equipment is destroyed, sometimes there is direct violence, groups are gathered there whose only purpose is to create tension, confrontation, and this is very sad because , that this is the face of our country, the reputation of our country. This is an indicator of weakness, so no one should be frightened by it. But despite this, I want to appeal to the Minister of Internal Affairs, whom I cannot contact, unfortunately, my administration cannot contact his deputy, the official government line is not working, and I want to ask him and urge him to make the police response faster, more effective, because We cannot allow this type of tension to exist in our polling stations. It's not up to us! Thank you all again. Many thanks to the media, which works in very difficult conditions - we are all informed by them, and extraordinary courage and efficiency have been proven today, especially by women. Thank you very much to everyone and I urge you all once again not to be lazy - go to the elections! The fate of our country is in your hands and it is up to you!" - said the President.
