Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze explains what will happen if the President of Georgia does not schedule the first session of the Parliament of the eleventh convocation.
As Kobakhidze stated, according to the constitution, the first session of the parliament should be held within 10 days after the summary of the elections, however, if the president does not call the session, the parliament will meet itself at the end of the term, on the 10th day.
"Legally, a 10-day deadline is set for holding the first session. On the 10th day, the Parliament will meet on its own and a session will be held. Here, the president has no resources for sabotage, even if he violates the Constitution of Georgia in a gross manner. The president has only formal competence. He can once again grossly violate the constitution here, but she cannot block the first session of the parliament. It is determined by the constitution that the first session of the parliament must be held within 10 days from the conclusion of the elections, therefore, if we theoretically allow such a gross violation, the parliament will meet on its own on the last, 10th day. This will be ensured by the Chairman of the Parliament and the Bureau of the Parliament", said Kobakhidze.
