Finance expert Marina Guledani has joined the growing chorus of professionals urging Georgia’s business sector to take a stand amid deepening political and legal turmoil in the country.
In a post published on her personal social media account, Guledani expressed dismay over what she describes as the normalization of illegality and fear, calling on large businesses to defend not just democratic values, but also their own economic self-interest.
“If nothing good is coming to the economy, maybe self-interest will speak up. Illegal things are being done in an illegal country,” she wrote.
Guledani also criticized the broader legal system, implying complicity among legal professionals and institutions in enabling the current state of affairs.
“The deeper you go, the more unyielding. It is incredible what this one person can do to so many ‘sleeping’ and frightened people, especially the lawyers who sign off on all this (judges, justice, investigators, etc.),” - Guledani writes.
