Fuel price breaks another anti-record, as the price for different types of fuel is approaching the 4-GEL mark. The main factors for the price raise are fuel price increase on the international market and devaluation of the national currency.
Zaal Iakobidze, head of Senta Petroleum declares that the current situation poses additional risks to the private sector. According to him, there is a danger that Russian companies will offer relatively low prices to the market and it will be difficult for oil importing companies to compete them.
"A difficult period has come for oil importers. This volatile situation puts everyone in a difficult situation. Planning something, taking the right steps is no longer possible. Let’s see, you bought the products but soon the price fell, any oil importer would suffer a great loss. There is one more factor: there are companies on the Russian market that import fuel to Georgia. As it is known, fuel on the Russian market is cheaper compared to any other international markets. If cheap fuel is imported from Russia, the business can find itself in a very unfavorable situation," said Zaal Iakobidze, head of Senta Petroleum.
