"If there had been discussion of Namakhvani HPP during my ministry (minister of energy), it would have been built already," said Kakha Kaladze, Tbilisi mayor, and former energy minister. Commenting on the issue, Kaladze also said that most HPPs were built in Georgia during his ministry.
"My position is that as many hydropower plants should be built in the country, as possible. The resources that the country has should be used as rationally as possible so that the citizens of our country do not depend on electricity imported from Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Turkey.
In the long run, this will have a direct impact on our economy as we have to pay high rates. I am proud that most of the HPPs were built during my ministry, which is very good for the country," Kaladze said.
Recall that for several months, protests against Namakhvani HPP have been going on, which took place in the capital yesterday.
