According to the parameters of the 2023 budget, which the Minister of Finance presented to the Parliament, the main priority is still health care and social security, as well as infrastructure financing and education.

The chairman of the International Chamber of Commerce, Fady Asly, criticizes the budget parameters and says that the strategy of "Georgian Dream", which prioritizes mainly social directions, will put the country's economy into the debt.

"Of course, solving social issues is not bad, but this is not the right strategy. This government has never come with a strategy or policy that is in the interest of the country. They have policies that serve their only self-interest - which can keep them going for as long as possible. Of course, if you subsidize grapes, apples and citrus, all farmers will vote for you, but this approach weakens the country. This is what this government is doing. Because of social programs, the government borrows money from abroad and spends it again in social programs. Of course, people will be happy. If you subsidize people's medicines or give them money every month, of course they will be satisfied. But the country will drown in debt," says Fady Asly.

He compares this strategy to a situation where a parent constantly gives sweets to a child to keep him from crying, but in the long run he gets bad health as a result.

"Imagine, you have a child and you have to give this child all the candies to stop him from crying. Of course, he won't cry and love you because he has ice cream and candy, but what will his health be like in 10 years? He will be diabetic, sick all the time, and that is exactly what this government is doing," Fady Asly told BMG.
