Ilia Darchiashvili has been appointed Georgia’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, as well as the country’s Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organization, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced. He holds the rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and brings extensive public-sector experience to his new diplomatic role.
Darchiashvili’s professional background includes senior positions both in government and the financial sector. Before this appointment, he served as Georgia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs from April 2022. His prior roles include Chief of the Government Administration, Ambassador to Poland, First Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure, Executive Director of the Municipal Development Fund, and various positions in the banking sector.
His academic background includes a bachelor’s degree in finance and banking and a master’s degree in customs administration from Tbilisi State University, as well as an MBA from Grenoble Business School in France.
The ambassadorial post became vacant after the previous envoy, Sophie Katsarava, left the position in October 2024, having served since 2020.
