Compared to last year, ISU has moved up in The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2023, now listing within the 1001 - 1200 range.
In the rankings, which reflect the results of 1799 institutions worldwide, only two Georgian educational and research institutions are presented, including ISU, which has attained the leading position throughout the country.
For the 2023 rankings, Elsevier’s Scopus database (bibliometric data provider) studied and analyzed more than 120 million citations across over 15.5 million research publications using data from more than 25 000 academic journals indexed in Scopus. The rankings are also based on the survey responses from 40 000 scholars worldwide.
There are 13 performance indicators used in The Times Higher Education World University Rankings, each combined into 5 categories, or “pillars”, which are weighted according to relative importance. These pillars represent the key areas needed to enhance higher education.
Pillars
- Teaching (30%): the learning environment
- Research (30%): volume, income, and reputation
- Citation (30%): research influence
- Industry Income (2.5%): knowledge transfer
- International Outlook (7.5%): international staff, students, and research collaboration
According to the pillars, one of the important categories of the rating (weighted 30%) is “Citation: research influence”. The research influence indicator looks at universities’ role in spreading new knowledge and ideas. ISU has a relatively high score of 40.2 compared to the adjacently ranked educational and research institutions in this category
