The IMF has indicated its readiness to consider a new program with Georgia if the government expresses interest, according to Jihad Azour, the Fund’s Director for the Middle East and Central Asia. He emphasized that Georgia is already a major beneficiary of the IMF’s technical assistance projects, which support reforms and capacity development.

Deputy Finance Minister Giorgi Kakauridze clarified that the Georgian government has not requested a new program and has no concrete plans in this regard for 2025. Unlike previous years, no reform direction has been identified that would necessitate starting a new IMF program at this time.

Azour highlighted Georgia’s strong economic performance, noting a 9.4% growth in 2024 and a projected 7.2% growth in 2025, alongside successful attraction of foreign investment and improved connectivity. These achievements, he said, reflect the country’s ongoing reform efforts and the long-standing, productive relationship with the IMF.

He concluded that while Georgia’s economy is performing well and benefits from IMF technical assistance, any new program would depend entirely on the government’s request. The Fund remains prepared to consider such a request if initiated.
