According to the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, the upcoming ban on importing cars older than six years will not apply to electric vehicles.

The ministry informed BMG that the ruling party, Georgian Dream, plans to prohibit the import of M1 category cars over six years old starting April 1, including both initial and temporary registration. Exceptions will apply to vehicles already transported before April 1 or those already on Georgian customs territory.

As of the end of 2025, 1,914,908 vehicles were registered in Georgia, a 6.9% increase from 2024. The majority run on gasoline (796,250 vehicles), followed by diesel (373,633), hybrids (188,899), gasoline and gas (187,016), electric vehicles (15,581), and gas-only vehicles (2,053). Other types account for 351,476 vehicles.

The government emphasizes that the measure aims to reduce environmental impact while promoting cleaner transportation, including electric mobility.
