Former Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili has published a letter from prison.
"I want to tell the public the truth about why I am sitting in prison. The main goal of the so-called 'fight against corruption' campaign started last year was to put me in prison and destroy me politically.
I declare with full responsibility that I did everything to avoid getting into a confrontation with the team and a person dear to me.
For this very reason, I refused a legal fight and went along with a process that was devastating for me to the end, so as not to damage the interests of the state and the team. Unfortunately, in return, I received a staged dirty provocation, many lies, and injustice. The public has not heard a single word from me all this time. I accepted this trial with full patience.
However, unexpectedly for me, in July I received the letter I published yesterday, which was sent to me by Mamuka Mdinaradze. On the same day, I made my position known to him, once again confirming that I had no intention of returning to politics, and offered my vision to hedge against that said 'risk.'
But in response, they sent word to me that a 1% risk still remained that I would return to politics, and therefore it was necessary to present me with corruption charges and for me to admit to them. This was the red line that forced me to take the most difficult step of my life. Consequently, since I have no other choice, they are forcing me to start a fight," writes Irakli Garibashvili.
