Georgian Infrastructure Minister Irakli Karseladze on Tuesday highlighted the ongoing transformation of the country’s road infrastructure, noting that 367 km of highways were already operational, with 149 road rehabilitation projects in progress and an expected completion of 450 km of road improvements by the end of the year across 101 projects.

"Our country is an integral part of the most important trade and transit international transport networks. Developing our road infrastructure to modern standards is our top priority. By implementing projects of unprecedented scale and engineering complexity, we are advancing the field of road construction”, said Karseladze at the event celebrating the annual professional day for road construction specialists.

He further recognised contributions of a range of professionals in the sector, including engineers, builders, lawyers, economists, and financiers.

"Thanks to the tireless work of these individuals, we have successfully completed six significant projects aimed at developing our international highways this year”, Karseladze noted.

Among achievements highlighted by the Minister was the completion of the Kvesheti-Kobi Tunnel, the longest in the country at nine kilometres, as part of the North-South Road Corridor. Additionally, major bypass routes have been finalised: the nine-km Zestaponi bypass, the 18-km Tsnori bypass, the 35-km Tbilisi-Sagarejo Highway, and the 14-km Batumi bypass.

Karseladze also noted a total of 48 km of a new main road for Rikoti Highway, which forms a part of the strategic East-West road route across this country, had been opened for transport, which he said reduced the travel distance by eight km and at least halved travel time.
