Chairman of the Television and Radio Commission Tigran Hakobyan has proposed introducing restrictions on the use of the popular TikTok app in Armenia. He made this statement at a meeting of the National Assembly on April 30 during the discussion of the Commission's activities for 2023.
"The technological revolution has led to the loss of state control over content," said the head of the commission, citing attempts by the United States and European Union countries to restrict or acquire the app from its Chinese owner.
Hakobyan also emphasized that many countries have already introduced content restrictions, but Armenia lags behind global trends in this regard.
There is no precise data on the prevalence of TikTok usage in Armenia, but experts note that it is one of the top five most popular social networks in the country.
