Beginning in 2026, road construction companies in Georgia will be required to use modified asphalt for the top layer of pavement in all state infrastructure projects, according to the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure.
The decision was announced during a meeting between Infrastructure Minister and representatives of road construction companies. The move is aimed at improving road quality, durability, and driving safety.
“Modified asphalt significantly enhances the durability and stability of road surfaces in both extreme heat and cold. It performs better under mechanical and climatic stress, reduces cracking, increases service life, and improves vehicle grip, all contributing to safer roads,” the ministry stated.
The meeting also included presentations on:
- Modern technologies for asphalt modification
- The benefits of warm asphalt concrete
- Innovative recycling and stabilization techniques using technological ash
Deputy Chairmen of the Roads Department and other senior officials were also present, signaling a strong institutional push toward technological advancement and sustainable road infrastructure.
