The Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance has entered Georgian Post, confirming that an investigation is underway. The agency gave BMG only one sentence in response and did not specify when the investigation began. It also did not answer questions about what exactly the investigation concerns, which period it covers, or whether former Georgian Post CEO Levan Chikvaidze is involved.

The investigation follows Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze’s statement at yesterday’s government meeting that intermediary companies used by Georgian Post “were a good means of corruption.” Kobakhidze said a number of services had been outsourced to intermediaries and added that “the relevant agencies will probably establish” whether there were violations. The Prime Minister’s press office provided no further comment.

BMG also tried to contact former Georgian Post CEO Levan Chikvaidze on both yesterday and today, but he did not answer calls. Chikvaidze headed Georgian Post from 2012 until summer 2025, when he was replaced by Giorgi Eradze, making him the longest-serving CEO among state-owned companies. He is currently involved in the private postal business.

According to Georgian Post’s latest audited financial statements, the company ended 2025 with a GEL 8.6 million loss, compared with a GEL 864,000 profit in 2024. Revenue fell by 3.5% to GEL 82.3 million, mainly due to a decline in postal service revenue from GEL 55.8 million to GEL 52.3 million, while parcel and transport revenue increased from GEL 29.3 million to GEL 29.7 million. Personnel expenses rose to GEL 39.7 million, while assets stood at GEL 92.7 million, equity at GEL 71.2 million and liabilities at GEL 21.4 million. Accumulated losses reached GEL 20.6 million. Kobakhidze has said Georgian Post is expected to return to profit this year.
