The Corruption Crime Department of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Georgia has opened an investigation into large-scale embezzlement and misuse of funds at the Tbilisi branch of the Electric Rolling Stock Repair Plant. The case concerns the plant’s responsible officials.
According to the investigative body, the probe was initiated based on materials submitted by the Tbilisi City Hall’s internal audit and monitoring service. The audit revealed possible signs of criminal activity in the plant’s operations, after which the materials were forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office.
The investigation is being conducted under Article 182 of the Criminal Code, which addresses the misappropriation and misuse of large amounts of money through abuse of official position.
On February 3, searches and other investigative measures were carried out at several addresses with a court order. The investigation is ongoing, and the Prosecutor’s Office has not yet disclosed the exact amount of misappropriated funds or whether any individuals have been formally charged.
