Georgia’s National Food Agency has identified non-compliance with national food safety requirements in a sample of Turkish-made Extra Virgin Olive Oil sold under the Ayvalık brand in a 5-liter tin container.

Laboratory testing detected elevated levels of glycidyl fatty acid esters and 3-MCPD and its fatty acid esters. The analysis was conducted by BIOR, the Institute of Food Safety, Animal Health and Environment.

The agency stressed that the findings apply only to the specific sample tested and do not establish non-compliance in other products or batches from the same manufacturer. It is continuing its investigation and will take measures necessary to protect consumer health.

The product’s identifying details are barcode 8693465410990 and manufacturer registration number TR-10-K-042281. The agency began testing oils and fats for certain contaminants in 2026 and has collected 71 samples to date.
