Representatives of the tourism sector are expecting the main tourist flows from Israel and the Persian Gulf countries during the summer season due to the tensions in the region.

As Tamuna Kurtanidze, the head of the tourism department of the Georgian Travel Group told Business Morning, Israel is a more stable market in relation to any fluctuations compared to Europe, including the pandemic or war.

"However, the first shock was reflected in this market as well, and at the end of February and the beginning of March we went through a very difficult period, with less bookings and inflows, but this shock was over rapidly and now we have an increase," said Tamuna Kurtanidze.

In addition, according to the representative of the travel company, the population of Israel is more or less accustomed to the state of war and, consequently, are not afraid to travel to Georgia.

"Even though the pandemic is coming to an end, the people of Israel still have some restrictions and travel in some countries is fraught with difficulties. Georgia is comfortable for them in this regard, because we have almost removed all restrictions," said the head of inbound tourism department.

As for the statistics, Kurtanidze notes, that growth was observed in the number of tourists from Israeli market in 1Q2022.
