GDP of Israel is mostly based on high-tech, innovative startups, and digital economy, and all of those are immune to such kind of hostilities, - this is what Ambassador of Israel to Georgia Mr. Ran Gidor told Forbes Georgia on the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine.
According to Mr. Ran Gidron, overnight riots continued in Jerusalem and the Hamas terrorist organization fired hundreds of rockets into Jerusalem, Beit Shemesh and other Israeli civilian population centers (some of them populated by thousands of Georgian-born Israelis, like Ashkelon, Ashdod, and Lod).
“It is too soon to judge, but on the basis of previous conflicts - the damage to the Israeli economy would be minimal. The pandemic has prevented the tourism industry from returning to normal levels anyway. The rest of the Israeli GDP is mostly based on high-tech, innovative startups, and the digital economy, and all of those are immune to such kinds of hostilities. The Palestinian economy, on the other hand, is not as developed as Israel's, and would suffer greatly if hostilities were to continue more than a day or two”, Mr. Ran Gidor told Forbes Georgia.
Ambassador of Israel to Georgia deeply hopes that the Palestinian leadership (both Hamas and the Palestinian Authority) will come back to their senses, de-escalate the tensions and allow the resumption of law and order.
“That would benefit both sides, of course, but especially the Palestinian people. The alternative could be catastrophic since it would involve not only national sentiments - but also religious extremism. That kind of 'cocktail' could be destructive for the entire region - the Middle East, which is considered one of the world's most unstable parts”, - the Ambassador said.
According to Reuters, late Tuesday hostilities between Israel and Hamas escalated, raising the death toll in two days to 32 Palestinians and three people in Israel, with Israel carrying out multiple airstrikes in Gaza and the militant group firing rockets at Tel Aviv.
