Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili said the criminal prosecutions of former Georgian Dream leaders and senior officials were among the key topics discussed at recent meetings of the party’s parliamentary majority and political council, attended by the party’s honorary chairman, Bidzina Ivanishvili.

Papuashvili said Ivanishvili expressed concern and disappointment over former members of the ruling team facing criminal liability. He added that the discussion focused on broader political developments and did not include specific questions about former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili.

According to Papuashvili, Ivanishvili’s concerns were shared by the wider party, as the prosecution of people who previously held the country’s highest political offices was a source of disappointment. The meeting also reviewed developments during the period since Ivanishvili last met with the parliamentary majority.

Papuashvili stressed that the government would continue its fight against corruption, saying the situation involving senior officials and the governing structure had changed substantially, including through procedural reforms intended to prevent corruption. He added that Ivanishvili himself had wanted to meet with the parliamentary majority and political council after a lengthy interval.
