Tbilisi Mayor and Georgian Dream party Executive Secretary Kakha Kaladze remains in Abu Dhabi and is currently unable to return to Georgia due to the security situation in the Middle East. According to the Tbilisi City Hall press office, Kaladze had been in Abu Dhabi over the weekend but cannot depart at this time.
“Mayor Kaladze spent the weekend in Abu Dhabi. Due to the current situation, he is temporarily unable to fly out,” City Hall stated.
The disruption follows an incident reported by Abu Dhabi authorities on March 1, when a drone targeting Zayed International Airport was intercepted and destroyed. Falling debris killed one person and injured seven others. Additionally, Iranian strikes caused damage at Dubai International Airport, where four airport employees were injured.
The escalating tensions have led to the cancellation of thousands of flights, marking one of the most serious global travel disruptions since the Covid-19 pandemic.
