The modernization of Tbilisi’s TV tower is moving forward, as the investor company has officially received a construction permit, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze announced during a site visit. The project provides turning the tower into a major tourist attraction with an observation deck and restaurant located 70 meters above ground.
According to Mayor Kaladze, the concept was developed in close coordination with the Historical Council, ensuring that architectural, cultural, and safety standards were fully respected. “This will be one of the important centers of attraction for Tbilisi residents and visitors,” Kaladze said, highlighting the project’s potential to boost the city’s tourism appeal.
The investment will be carried out by KASS GROUP, the company behind the popular Tsalka Canyon project, which has become one of the region’s busiest tourist destinations. KASS GROUP has committed to investing at least $4 million in the modernization of the Tbilisi Tower and will receive a 25-year management right over the new tourism infrastructure.
While Kaladze stated that construction is expected to take around two years, the official press release from City Hall sets the final project deadline at March 2028.
The Tbilisi Municipality Government and the Ministry of Economy will provide support for the project, including:
- Rehabilitation of the surrounding infrastructure
- Renovation of the tower’s lighting system
- Transfer of technical inventory
- Full repainting of the structure
- Long-Awaited Development
Plans for modernization were first announced in 2018, though investor interest only materialized in 2021, when KASS GROUP was selected to implement the project. Now, with the permit secured and preparations completed, construction is set to enter an active phase.
