Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze said rehabilitation works on Rustaveli Avenue will be completed by the end of November. He said underground infrastructure is being fully replaced and upgraded, addressing longstanding problems that had affected traffic and caused flooding in building basements.
“We promised that the works would be completed by the end of November,” Kaladze said, adding that various false reports about the project had been circulating. He said the Tbilisi City Hall would provide residents with accurate information about the rehabilitation.
However, Levan Gogsadze, managing partner of Smart Solutions, the contractor selected for the project, said on September 23 that the company had not yet been able to start work on around 40% of the rehabilitation area. He said the project had been adjusted to reflect existing conditions and that around 20 companies were working simultaneously, requiring coordination between contractors.
Rehabilitation of Rustaveli Avenue began on July 23, with traffic fully restricted on the avenue and part of Merab Kostava Street. Smart Solutions was selected as the sole bidder in a tender with an estimated value of GEL19.95 million and offered to complete the works for GEL19.77 million.
