Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze has warned holders of Category A lifetime taxi permits to settle outstanding fees or risk losing their licenses permanently.
Speaking at a city government meeting, Kaladze said that despite benefiting from a recent law that waived certain administrative penalties, more than 1,000 permit holders continue to ignore licensing obligations and have failed to pay permit fees. As a result, their outstanding balances continue to increase.
The municipality said the warning applies to drivers who have not paid the fee associated with their lifetime Category A taxi permits since October 2025. Authorities have been notifying drivers through text messages, written notices, and phone calls.
Under current regulations, non-payment initially results in a GEL 100 fine, which can rise to GEL 300 and then GEL 900 for repeated violations. Additional penalties and late-payment surcharges may apply, with continued non-compliance ultimately leading to the cancellation of the permit, which cannot be reinstated.
