Murad Gogadze, director of nut and dried fruit producer “Kalakuri,” told the Parliamentary Temporary Commission on Prices that local producers face unequal competition from imported nuts, driving up prices. He suggested regulating imports as a potential solution.
Gogadze explained that imported nuts often have higher quantity for the same cost, while Georgian nuts focus on quality, making them more expensive per unit. He emphasized that producers should have the right to set their own prices based on product quality.
He noted that demand for Georgian nuts has grown, especially in exports, with the price of shelled nuts reaching 33–35 GEL locally. However, in retail, imported nuts often undercut local products, creating an uneven playing field.
“Kalakuri” kept nut and dried fruit prices stable for two years, with the first increase only starting December 1, 2025.
