Kazakhstan increases production of green energy

According to the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan, over the period from January to September 2023, the renewable energy sector produced 4.91 billion kilowatt-hours, a 25% increase over the same period last year.

Wind and solar stations accounted for the vast part of this energy: 2.575 billion and 1.572 billion kilowatt hours, respectively. Small hydropower stations produced 760.9 million kilowatt-hours and biopower stations produced 2.25 million kilowatt hours. In other words, the share of renewable sources of energy in the general energy production in Kazakhstan reached 5.97%.

The total capacity of the renewable sources of energy within the country is 2.7 gigawatts, including wind power stations (1.247 gigawatts), solar stations (1.198 gigawatts), small hydropower stations (269.6 megawatts) and biopower stations (1.77 megawatts).

Kazakhstan wants the share of renewable energy to reach 15% by 2030 at the expense of several big projects with a capacity of one gigawatt each, Kursiv reports.
