Major challenges in Georgia’s aquaculture sector include water tariffs, adoption of modern technologies, and access to laboratory services, according to a meeting between the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture and sector representatives. Deputy Minister Lasha Dolidze emphasized the need for fish disease management, stronger lab capacities, and specialist training.
Working groups will be created to address these issues and deliver effective results within set timeframes. The meeting also discussed new irrigation tariffs and state support mechanisms, with Georgia Melioration pledging to subsidize 80% of water supply costs for fish farms.
Modern methods for studying fish diseases have been introduced in the State Agricultural Laboratory, enabling timely diagnosis and prevention while providing results that meet international standards.
The meeting included representatives from the Agricultural Scientific Research Center, the National Food Agency, and the State Agricultural Laboratory, reflecting the government’s ongoing efforts to support and develop the aquaculture sector.
