Because Georgia's government pursues a sovereign policy and acts in the national interest, the country has become a target of European bureaucracy and Western leaders, Irakli Kobakhidze stated at a briefing held at the Government Administration.
According to him, after the Georgian government refused the demands of agents of the so-called "deep state," various countries—including the previous U.S. administration—used various mechanisms of pressure against the authorities.
"Sanctions were imposed on top officials of the Georgian government, the Honorary Chairman of the ruling party, Mr. Bidzina Ivanishvili, Georgian judges, high-ranking police officials, individuals, and so on," Kobakhidze said.
The Prime Minister stated that Georgia's goal of joining the European Union was also used as an instrument to exert pressure on the government.
"Additionally, Georgia's declared goal of becoming a full member of the European Union was used to exert pressure on the government," he noted.
According to Kobakhidze, after sanctions and other forms of pressure failed to force a change of government or yield their desired outcome, he assesses that plans are being made to stage a new provocation against Georgia using local agents.
"After this failed to produce their desired outcome—since the ruling party, backed by the support of the Georgian population, could not be subjugated—they are attempting to entangle Georgia in a new provocation through their agents," Kobakhidze stated.
For context, Kobakhidze scheduled today's August 12 briefing on the topic of "Russophobia."
