Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said Bidzina Ivanishvili does not need to “return” to politics because he is already politically active and serves as the political leader of the Georgian Dream team. Kobakhidze was responding to questions about Ivanishvili potentially returning as prime minister.

“He is in politics. He is the honorary chairman of our party and the leader of our team. This is the reality today,” Kobakhidze said, adding that Ivanishvili plays a decisive role in ensuring Georgia’s security, maintaining peace and supporting the country’s development.

According to Kobakhidze, Ivanishvili wants the current situation to continue and remains the political leader of the team. “He plays a decisive role in all the achievements of our country and our team. This is the reality that everyone should accept,” he said.

“If he had wanted to be prime minister, he would have stayed as prime minister in 2013,” Kobakhidze said. He added that Ivanishvili acted according to his own wishes and continues to do so, while his role as the team’s leader provides the country with strong political leadership focused on security, peace and development.
