Kobakhidze Says Anaklia Port Will Be Discussed During Mariam Kvrivishvili’s China Visit

Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has confirmed that the Anaklia deep-sea port project will be among the topics discussed during Economy Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili’s visit to China. Speaking to journalists, he said negotiations with the Chinese side are ongoing.

According to Kobakhidze, interest from the Chinese side in the project remains, although no final agreement has been reached. He added that discussions continue and hinted that updates on the Anaklia project could be expected in the near future.

The Economy Ministry has already held meetings in China with the Minister of Commerce, focusing mainly on trade agreement updates and cooperation in logistics and transport infrastructure. However, official statements did not explicitly confirm whether Anaklia was discussed during those talks.

The Anaklia port project has faced repeated delays since a Chinese consortium, CCCC, was named preferred bidder in 2024. Despite earlier expectations of a quick agreement, negotiations have stalled for nearly two years amid unresolved commercial issues. The government plans to spend GEL 50 million in 2026 on related infrastructure works, while broader investment terms with CCCC remain under discussion.
