Kobakhidze Says EU Ambassador’s Summoning Is “Fully Justified”

კობახიძე

Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said that summoning the EU Ambassador to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is “fully justified,” responding to recent statements by Ambassador Pawel Herczynski that he described as threatening. Speaking to journalists, Kobakhidze said the ambassador’s remarks amounted to pressure on Georgian society.

According to Kobakhidze, the EU Ambassador is in a “tragic situation,” claiming that his statements imply that Georgia’s future path will determine either EU integration or outcomes such as civil unrest and economic hardship. He argued that such framing constitutes a form of threat toward the Georgian public.

The Prime Minister further claimed that the ambassador’s comments represented a “direct threat” and said it was appropriate for him to be summoned to the Foreign Ministry. He added that repeated statements from the ambassador have gone beyond diplomatic norms.

Kobakhidze also accused the ambassador of previous political interference, including alleged calls during elections that he says amounted to supporting a change of government. He argued that such actions demonstrate a pattern of pressure on Georgia’s political processes.
