Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said Georgia is particularly interested in restoring positive relations with Germany, describing the country as one of Georgia’s most important partners since the 1990s.

Speaking in Singapore, Kobakhidze expressed gratitude for Germany’s long-standing support for Georgia’s development and said the government hopes to return bilateral ties to a positive trajectory. He also criticized Germany’s former ambassador to Georgia, claiming the diplomat had negatively affected relations.

The prime minister noted that Germany has appointed a new ambassador to Georgia, while Georgia’s ambassador to Germany, Aleksandre Kartozia, has now presented his credentials to German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. Kobakhidze said these developments could help improve bilateral cooperation.

Relations between the two countries have deteriorated significantly in recent years, with the German government citing concerns over the actions of Georgia’s authorities. The previous German ambassador, Peter Fischer, was summoned by Georgia’s Foreign Ministry, a move that Germany strongly criticized.
