Kobakhidze Slams European Parliament's “7th Shameful Resolution” as Regrettable

GD Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has strongly criticized the European Parliament’s latest resolution on Georgia, calling it “shameful” and “regrettable.” Speaking to journalists, Kobakhidze condemned what he described as political blackmail against the Georgian people.

“The 7th shameful resolution of the European Parliament is very regrettable,” he said, in reference to the resolution adopted on July 9, which calls for possible restrictive measures against Georgia. These include the potential disconnection from the SWIFT financial system and sectoral sanctions targeting the financial flows of the ruling Georgian Dream party.

Kobakhidze argued that such actions undermine the credibility of European institutions within Georgia.

“All this discredits European institutions in Georgia. According to European studies, trust in these structures has already decreased by 20%. That’s not surprising when we see this kind of blackmail,” he stated.

Kobakhidze further claimed that the resolution is politically motivated, accusing European lawmakers of siding with the opposition.

“This is blackmail against the Georgian people simply because the collective 'National Movement' did not return to power. That is absolutely shameful.”

Kobakhidze’s remarks reflect growing tensions between Tbilisi and Brussels, especially following a series of critical resolutions from the European Parliament over the past year.
