Georgia and the European Union must agree on a shared vision of a democratic, sovereign and economically strong country based on the rule of law and the protection of human rights, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said at an EU enlargement summit organized by Euronews in Brussels.
Kobakhidze said the government was ready to begin dialogue with the EU without preconditions, emphasizing that sovereignty, dignity, democracy and the rule of law must be respected.
He also rejected calls to suspend the implementation of Georgian laws, describing such demands as a violation of national sovereignty. According to him, Georgia has a legitimate parliament whose legislation complies with international standards.
“If anyone has concerns about our legislation, they should engage in dialogue with us and present relevant legal arguments,” Kobakhidze said, adding that reaching an agreement on these fundamental principles would allow the process to move forward smoothly.
