While anticrisis measures were launched during the pandemic, the government held various meetings with donors, analytical centers, economists, etc. What was advised? What was accomplished? What was taken into consideration?

Beka Liluashvili, PM's economic adviser, sat down with The Checkpoints couple of days before the elections to give an overview and perspective of the Georgian economy as seen by the government.

"I am confirming that we had many good meetings, and we continue to do so. During the last week, the Prime Minister, the government, and the government's economic team had a meeting with the private sector, among them the most affected businesses. We had the meeting with the analytical capacities that are represented in Georgia,"- he said.

According to Liluashvili, the government had active communication with all the involved parties, and they were very motivated to propose some basic and then additional measures that seem to be the most efficient one.

"Of course, some of the recommendations were not eligible because of the realizability or because of the funding, but we are actively coordinating with the donors to raise funds for sufficient measures to implement," - he said.

As Liluashvili asserts, some of the recommendations gave the government the direction as to where they need to intervene with certain measures.

"It helped us with the identification process of the target groups in the business sector, etc. However, most of the systematic work themes with the analytical groups and the experts were initiated by the government. With the help of our donors, the USAID and UNDP, we contracted international level economists, who we still have on board. One group is the Washington school representatives, and the other ones are statistician economists,"- he said.
