Today, October 26, one of the 67 overseas polling stations set up for Georgia's parliamentary elections is open in the Armenian capital of Yerevan. Polling station No. 45 is located in the rear section of the Georgian Embassy building in Yerevan.
According to on-site information, about 1,000 voters are registered at this polling station out of the 95,910 Georgian citizens eligible to vote abroad. Voting for Georgia's parliamentary elections is proceeding peacefully, but voter turnout remains low—only one voter was observed over a 20-minute period.
Polling stations in Georgia opened at 08:00 local time and will close at 20:00. Representatives from 64 international and 102 local organizations are monitoring the voting process. This year, for the first time, members of parliament will be elected solely by proportional representation based on party lists. Parties need to gain at least 5 percent of the vote to secure seats in parliament.
Eighteen parties are participating in the elections, with five forming coalitions. For the first time, an electronic voting system will also be used in parliamentary elections. With modern technology, it is expected that over 90 percent of ballots will be counted within an hour of polling stations closing, and the results will be published promptly.
In total, 3,508,294 Georgian citizens are eligible to participate in the elections, with 3,111 polling stations organized for them, including 67 abroad in 53 cities across 42 countries.
