Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices in Georgia are expected to rise in the near future following a sharp increase in prices on the Russian market, according to Nariman Pirtskheliani, president of the Association of LPG Importers and Retailers.

Pirtskheliani told BMG that the price of LPG in Russia has nearly doubled over the past month, rising from around 30,000 rubles to 65,000 rubles per ton. He attributed the increase to strikes and attacks on Russian oil refineries, which have increased domestic demand for LPG.

LPG currently sells for around GEL 1.70 per liter in Georgia, although prices at some filling station networks exceed GEL 2. Pirtskheliani expects the price to potentially reach GEL 2.80–2.90 per liter.

According to the association, Georgia currently has no alternative market for LPG imports and remains fully dependent on Russian supplies. Although exports from Russia have not been restricted, importers are already exploring alternative sources. Retailers also say the closure and fining of some gas stations is adding pressure to the market and could affect pricing.
