Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices in Georgia have increased by an average of 20–25 tetri since March, with industry representatives warning that additional price hikes are likely in the coming months.
Nika Khoperia, chairman of the LPG Association, said seasonal demand is one of the main drivers of the increase. LPG consumption typically rises by 25–30% between May and September as travel and mobility increase during the holiday season.
Khoperia also cited supply pressures linked to the Russia–Ukraine war. According to him, attacks on Russia’s oil infrastructure have contributed to LPG shortages in Russia, Georgia’s primary supplier, while limited alternative import sources have increased the market’s vulnerability.
The association expects prices to continue rising through September. In addition to supply shortages, Russian export duties of around $130 per ton and planned maintenance at several major processing plants are expected to further constrain supply. Industry operators also face additional pressure from the closure and fining of some LPG stations in Tbilisi under new municipal regulations.
