Mamuka Khazaradze, leader of the Lelo for Strong Georgia party, has been sentenced to 8 months in prison and barred from holding public office for two years. The decision was issued by Judge Zviad Sharadze after Khazaradze was found guilty of failing to comply with the demands of a parliamentary temporary investigative commission.
Khazaradze did not attend the court session where the verdict was announced and declined to deliver a final statement.
The case stems from Khazaradze’s refusal to appear before the Georgian Parliament’s investigative commission, which led to charges under Article 349 of the Criminal Code—"failure to comply with the demands of a temporary investigative commission." The offense is punishable by a fine, imprisonment of up to one year, and/or restrictions on holding public office.
Earlier, a bail of 50,000 GEL was set as a preventive measure, which Khazaradze paid within the required period.
