Retailers operating in the Railway Station area have reported that a massive fire has destroyed their shops and the loss is great, - according to Mzevinar Buchuadze, a representative of the market directorate.
She cannot talk about the causes of the fire and says that the market was insured, but the individual traders do not have insurance.
"We only know that the fire started at about 7:20. The second-hand section is located nearby and the fire started from there, we do not yet have information about how. The damage is very large. The wholesale book store alone had books worth about 250,000 USD, which had become to ashes, there were cloths shops as well. In addition, large warehouses have burned down, from which we supplied the stores. If we take warehouses alone, it is somewhere around 3 million. At least 350 people trade in this market, and everyone had a bank loan," said the representative of the market's management.
