Armenia and India have discussed mechanisms for regulating the movement of workforce from India to Armenia, reports the press service of the Armenian Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs.
On June 11, Armenian Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Narek Mkrtchyan met with Indian Ambassador Kishan Dan Dewal. During the meeting, the parties discussed strengthening cooperation in the field of social protection, with a focus on employment and human capital development.
"Particular attention was paid to mechanisms for regulating the movement of workforce from India to Armenia and attracting specialists of various levels. The importance of experience exchange and the organization of joint initiatives to enhance workforce competitiveness was also emphasized," the statement said.
BMG reminds that in 2017, the Armenian government simplified the visa issuance process for Indian citizens. Since then, the number of Indians wishing to live and work in Armenia has increased.
According to the Armenian Migration and Citizenship Service, in 2023, work permits were granted to 3,200 Indian residents, compared to 530 in 2022 and just 55 in 2021. Indians primarily obtain residency in Armenia for work, rather than for study.
