“Generally, there is a serious problem in the media. Media is one of the main sources of polarization,” Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists in Kobuleti.
According to the Head of Government, this is a recognized problem, including being documented in OSCE/ODIHR conclusions, and it requires regulation.
However, media outlets associated with the opposition and the opposition itself oppose this because they benefit from the circulation of lies and hatred by these media outlets.
“This does not align with the interests of Georgian society. It is in Georgian society’s interest to receive accurate information about events, and it is in Georgian society’s interest for the media to be free from hatred and lies. Therefore, if anyone opposes this bill, they favour hatred and falsehood, which is unacceptable to us,” the Prime Minister stated.
