Georgian Young Lawyers' Association (GYLA) declares, that the Ministry of Internal Affairs continued to suppress the protests started on November 28 with violent and illegal methods during the night of December 2-3.
According to them, the decision to break up the rally on December 2-3 was still illegal.During the night of December 2-3, the Ministry of Internal Affairs continued to suppress the protests started on November 28 with violent and illegal methods.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs called the demonstrators to break up the rally at 9:15 p.m., and the raid operation started at 9:44 p.m.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs used a water cannon to break up the rally in front of the Parliament. The head of the patrol police department, Vazha Siradze, said the following in an interview (22:13): "We made a decision, since the rally was started with aggression and violence by a group of 300-400 people, to start the event from the beginning [...]".
According to this assessment, the Ministry of Internal Affairs cannot justify the use of general force against the absolute majority of the peaceful participants of the rally, and therefore, the decision to break up the rally on December 2-3 was still illegal.
After the collapse of the gathering in front of the Parliament, the protest continued on Rustaveli Avenue. Throughout the night, the situation was periodically tense, police forces periodically chased the demonstrators, harassed them, verbally insulted them, detained them without reason, using violent methods and used gas canisters against the peaceful demonstrators.
