Microfinance Sector's Net Profit Surges 66.5% in 1H26

Georgia's microfinance sector posted a 66.5% year-on-year increase in net profit during the first half of 2026, according to data released by the National Bank of Georgia.

Microfinance organizations (MFOs) earned GEL 117.5 million in net profit in January-June 2026, up from GEL 70.5 million in the same period of 2025. The sector's total assets stood at GEL 2.579 billion, while liabilities amounted to GEL 1.7 billion.

As of the end of the first half, MFOs had issued 872,313 loans with a combined loan portfolio of GEL 2.171 billion. Pawnshop loans remained the dominant product, accounting for 800,354 loans worth GEL 1.722 billion, or 79% of the sector's total lending.

Consumer loans ranked second with a portfolio of GEL 287.4 million, followed by trade and services loans at GEL 80.5 million. Loans to legal entities totaled 534, with a combined value of GEL 20.5 million. A total of 28 microfinance organizations currently operate in Georgia.
