A modern 15,000 sq m shopping mall will be built on the site of the Borjomi market that burned down in May of this year, where all affected vendors will be able to resume their work. The news was announced by Levan Karalashvili, General Director of GRDC Holding and the owner of Borjomi market.
According to Karalashvili, construction will take 12 months, and the investment amount will reach USD 15 million. At this stage, the company is awaiting a construction permit.
“We have prepared a reconstruction project for the burned Borjomi Bazaar area and submitted it to the municipality. We are actively working with them. We hope the relevant construction permit will be issued in the near future, after which we will begin reconstruction, restore the space, and return jobs to the 400 affected people who worked there.
Right now, we are in the process of completing these formal procedures and hope to finalize them as soon as possible so we can move to active construction.
We estimate that construction will take about 12 months, as the building will be constructed with sandwich panels. The investment amounts to nearly USD 15 million. I would like to note that this is part of maintaining the status quo for our group and fulfilling the commitments we have made to the affected individuals and the city administration,” said Levan Karalashvili, General Director of GRDC Holding.
