More than GEL 22 million will be allocated from the state budget for the rehabilitation and periodic maintenance of several sections of the Khashuri-Akhaltsikhe-Vale international road, the Ministry of Infrastructure said.

The largest ongoing project involves the full rehabilitation of a 6.5-kilometer section with a contract value exceeding GEL 9.2 million. The project includes a new asphalt-concrete surface, a bridge over the Suramula River, drainage and other structures, road connections, residential access points, road signs and markings.

Another GEL 6 million is being allocated for the periodic maintenance of a 9-kilometer section from km9+700 to km18+100. Asphalt-concrete paving and street lighting works are currently underway, along with drainage channels, access points, road signs and horizontal markings.

Works on two additional lots are expected to begin soon. Some GEL 6.9 million will be allocated for the full rehabilitation of a 2.2-kilometer section, while periodic maintenance is also planned for another approximately 3-kilometer stretch. The Khashuri-Akhaltsikhe-Vale road connects the Shida Kartli and Samtskhe-Javakheti regions and serves as a major transit and tourism route toward the Georgia-Turkey border. All ongoing and planned works are fully financed by the state budget.
