In 2024, South Caucasus Railway (SCR) served approximately 563,000 passengers, a 4.6% increase compared to 2023. According to the company’s press service, the positive growth in passenger traffic has continued since 2021.

The majority of trips were on suburban routes, with about 521,000 passengers. The Yerevan-Gyumri and Yerevan-Yeraskh lines saw the highest growth. Additionally, the company operated six tourist charter trips, carrying approximately 1,500 passengers.

International routes, including Yerevan-Tbilisi and Yerevan-Batumi, served 42,500 passengers. This figure represents a decline of 14,500 passengers compared to the previous year, attributed to a month-long suspension of services caused by flood damage to railway infrastructure in northern Armenia during May and June, as well as a general decrease in tourist flows between the two capitals.

Grant Mikaelyan, Head of the Passenger Transportation Directorate at SCR, noted that the increase in passenger traffic reflects growing trust in railway transport.

In 2024, the electronic ticketing system for suburban trains was improved. For 2025, the company plans to upgrade the online ticketing system for international routes in collaboration with Georgian partners.
