A mudslide that struck on September 20–21 caused significant damage to the Enguri Hydropower Plant (HPP), prompting the state-owned company to request authorization for a simplified procurement worth GEL 74,000 to carry out urgent restoration works.

According to documents published on the State Procurement Agency’s website, heavy rainfall and mudflows from the Okorane and Tomi rivers brought large quantities of stones, gravel, and fallen trees, which blocked the area near the 7th adit of the Enguri HPP diversion tunnel. The flood also obstructed the entrance to the tunnel, filled the riverbeds of the Okorane and Tomi rivers, and damaged the inspection road connecting the Enguri power node to the arch dam.

“As a result of the damage, it is currently impossible to access the 7th tunnel, use the inspection road leading to the dam, or transport cargo. Regular monitoring of filtration sources along the diversion tunnel is also hindered,” the documentation notes. It adds that during rainfall, the blocked riverbeds cause water to overflow onto the roadway, leading to further deterioration, which makes immediate repair and restoration work necessary.

The company Remservice 2002 LLC has been selected to carry out the work, which must be completed within 20 days. “Due to the urgent need, and based on market research, it is deemed appropriate to conclude a simplified procurement contract with Remservice 2002 LLC for the elimination of the mudflow damage at Enguri HPP facilities, at a total cost of GEL 73,820 (including VAT),” the official documentation states.
